He started his lecture by quoting the example of equality, brotherhood, unity way back in 1888 when there was a dispute amongst different section of the society for building a particular religious place and shared with the gathering that the dispute was solved by a marginalized, unrecognized, unacknowledged section of the society called trans-genders.
Prof. (Dr.) Aijaz Ahmed, Government Degree College for Women, Pulwama, HOD, Social Work elaborated upon the biased behaviour of society against third gender with reference to the life of Hijras especially in J&K. He spoke about the marginalization of third gender because they are limited to perform at marriages and act as matchmakers popularly known as “MAZAMYAR”.
Dhananjay Chauhan (President of Saksham Trust NGO and first transgender student of Punjab University shared her painful, heartrending, tormenting, afflicting life experience. During her speech, she spoke at length about third gender that they should be universally accepted and one should not talk about only duties and contributions but to have empathy, kindness towards the marginalized section of the society. |
