Martyrs are martyrs, not rich or poor: Taranjit Singh Tony | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 3: Taking serious note of the government discriminating against martyrs on the basis of affluence, DDC member Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony today said that martyrs are martyrs and their sacrifices cannot be assessed on the basis of wealth. In a statement issued here Tony said that J&K government’s decision on differentiating martyrs on the basis of richness is arbitrary and unjust and should be condemned by one and all in the UT. He said that people who lost their lives while performing official duties whether at the borders or in the hinterland should be treated at par as supreme sacrifice for the country cannot be differentiated on any basis. He said that the government's move on the issue is prejudiced and should be tweaked as soon as possible. He said that if someone got killed at the hands of terrorists or in cross border firing must be given respect and honour. “Those other than belt forces personnel who lay their lives while performing duties should also be given status of the martyr as their sacrifices are no less than that of security personnel”, he said adding that the government decision to differentiate martyrs for giving jobs and other relief on the basis of affluence is nothing but sheer injustice and should be rectified as soon as possible. Tony highlighted the menace created by mining ‘mafia’ hailing from Punjab, UP, Rajasthan and Haryana, and sought LG’s intervention to immediately look into it as the same has created mayhem in the UT with common man left with no option but to surrender before anti-people policies. |
