Stalls selling Diwali items set up in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 3: A few roadside stalls selling Diwali items were put up by the vendors in Srinagar where people from the particular community were seen making purchases for the celebration of the festival. A UNI correspondent after visiting a few places said that a few stalls selling Diwali items near Gurudwara at Amirakadal with a lesser number of customers making purchases of colored candles, incense sticks, camphor and portraits of goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha for conducting pooja at their homes. He said that a few customers were purchasing flower garlands, portraits of the Goddess Laxmi from a roadside stall put up by a vendor near Hanuman Mandir at Hari Singh High Street. A number of women customers were purchasing packs of Pooja articles, besides coconut and portraits from a shopkeeper at Amirakadal. A Muslim road side vendor had also put up a stall at Hari Singh High Street selling earthen lamps was looking for the customers amid cold conditions. However, no crackers were seen put for sale in any shop in Srinagar. Chuni Lal, a Kashmiri pandit who is staying in Srinagar told that what happened in the past weeks in Kashmir valley when a number of people were killed in separate incidents was unfortunate and condemnable. ‘’These incidents inflict pain and sorrow’’he added. He said, ‘Deepawali, is a festival of lights and joy. “It is a win over the injustice” he said, and added “ we lit the lamps and candles to express joy over injustice”. He said that we have cleaned our home and made necessary purchases including sweets to start preparation for celebrations of the Deepawali and Pooja of Goddess Laximi in the evening tomorrow. He said that special prayers would be conducted for the peace and tranquility of Kashmir valley. |
