National Animal Disease Control Programme Phase-II launched in Jammu division

JAMMU, Nov 8: The Department of Animal Husbandry Jammu today officially launched the second phase of the prestigious central sector scheme, National Animal Disease Control Programme for Foot and Mouth Disease in livestock, here at the Directorate complex, Talab Tillo.
The programme aims at vaccinating the entire eligible cattle and buffalo population against the Foot and Mouth Disease in all the districts of the Jammu province.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Matloob Ahmad Tak, Chief Executive Officer Livestock Development Board, Jammu urged the farmers to take full benefits of the programme and vaccinate their livestock against Foot and Mouth Disease. He said this disease is a serious impediment in the overall growth of the livestock sector and inflicts great economic losses upon the dairy farmers.
Earlier, the programme was launched with flagging off the vehicles containing FMD vaccines from the Directorate complex in the presence of Officers and staff of the Animal Husbandry Department Jammu.
Similar events marking the launch of the vaccination programme were held across all the districts of Jammu province.
It is pertinent to mention here that the National Animal Disease Control Programme was launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on September 11, 2019 and envisages control of FMD and Brucellosis diseases in livestock by 2025 and their complete eradication by 2030.
Animal Husbandry Department (AHD) Ramban formally launched the 2nd round of National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) in the district to keep in control foot and mouth disease of animals.
After launching the vaccination drive by vaccinating animals at CAHO complex, the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr Bharat Bhushan Raina informed that the National Animal Disease Control Programme is an initiative taken by the central government in September 2019, to ensure hundred percent vaccinations of cattle.
The CAHO stressed upon the field staff to target and vaccinate 100 percent bovine population of the district in stipulated time. He asked the officers and officials of the department to fully commit themselves to the vaccination drive for the next 45 days.
He informed that around 1.5 lakh bovines will be covered under this program in the district. Apart from vaccination all the animals are to be tagged besides uploading daily data of vaccinated animals on the INAPH portal.
