Jammu to have bicycle service, ITMS by 2022 under Smart City Project | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 9: Jammu city is being developed under Smart City Project and as a part of the ongoing development, the winter capital will also have a bicycle service for the commuters besides Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), which will also be introduced by 2022 by the Jammu Municipal Corporation. The Jammu Municipal Corporation will launch the bicycle service in the City at around 120 identified spots. "Under the Smart City Project, 120 cycle stands are being established at identified locations in different parts falling under the jurisdiction of the Corporation," Hitesh Gupta, Additional. Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jammu Smart City Project told UNI. He said that execution of the project is already tendered under which 800 cycles out of which nearly 80 will be electric to travel high altitude areas of Jammu city, are to be launched. "The users availing the service have to drop the cycle at the stand near his destination," said the Additional CEO asserting that the mode of payment will be through QR code and the bicycle will be GPS fitted to track its location. Hitesh Gupta said that the launch of bicycle service is expected to be introduced in three months and likely to be made operational by January next year. Moreover, a control room is also being established in the municipal office under the supervision of a senior officer as its nodal officer. Apart from this, Jammu Municipal Corporation is also introducing Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to bring 'out of control' traffic systems on track. "Under ITMS, CCTV cameras equipped with modern facilities and infrastructure will be installed at 44 square intersections of the city under the Jammu Smart City project," said the official. "By the month of June next year, ITMS will start functioning and with its introduction, the residents will get relief from the traffic jams and strict action will also be taken against the violators,"he said. Two control rooms, (one each) at Jammu Municipal Corporation and at Traffic Police headquarters are to be established for monitoring, he asserted. |
