GDC Chenani organizes symposium on 'World Science Day for Peace and Development'

JAMMU, Nov 10: Government Degree College, Chenani organized one day virtual symposium on "World Science Day for Peace and Development" today.
Prof. Ashwani Wanganeo, former Head of Department (HOD), Department of Environmental Science and Limnology and former Dean of Life Sciences, Barkatullah University, Bhopal was the resource person of the event. He deliberated in detail on the theme "building climate ready communities". He stated that climate change is fast becoming a serious threat to the lives of billions of people and the planet.
Prof. Ashwani pointed out that loss and degradation of biodiversity such as forests, is also an important driver of climate change. Besides highlighting the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues, he also emphasized some key scientific aspects and possible solutions provided by science, technology and innovation to some of the major global challenges the society is facing today.
Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College also discussed about the climate change and its impact on human societies around the world. She highlighted that biodiversity makes an important contribution to both climate change mitigation and adaptation, providing the basis for efforts to reduce the negative effects of climate change.
