Hakla express concern over plight of Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe

POONCH, Nov 14: Prominent Gujjar leader Shamsher Hakla Poonchi said that the need of hours in present situation of J&K on becoming a Union Territory is to take concrete steps for the welfare and upliftment of Gujjar-Bakarwal tribe of J&K on first priority which in true essence will be the development of J&K.
He demanded for opening of boarding schools in all the districts of J&K on the pattern of Navodaya Vidyalaya for Boys and Girls student of Gujjar-Bakarwal and also for establishing a tribal university in J&K for Gujjar-Bakarwal (Schedule Tribe) students.
Hakla said that the Gujjar Bakarwals tribe generally speaks Gojri language and their mother language is Gojri.
As of now, Gojri language has become a backward language and it’s necessary to include it in 8th schedule of Indian constitution for its upliftment & development.
Hakla said that Gujjar Bakarwal community has its habitation in 20 districts of J&K U.T. Gujjar Bakarwal community is divided into 3 parts: Settled, Half Settled and Unsettled Nomadic Gujjar Bakarwals.
Expressing serious concern over the plight of Gujjars and Bakarwals who are deprived of basic amenities by the authorities, Hakla urged the J&K UT government to provide all basic facilities to Gujjars and Bakarwals in the J&K.
He urged the Prime Minister of India to sanction special economical package for permanent settlement and welfare and upliftment of Nomadic Gujjars Bakarwals of J&K.
Hakla also appealed to Narendra Modi for special recruitment in Indian Army, Border Security Force Central Reserve Police, Seema Suraksha Bal and Jammu and Kashmir Police for Gujjar Bakarwals.
