EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Nov 24: Bunkar Vikas Aur Anusandhan Sangathan, organized a two-day long Bunkar Karigar Niti Vichar Manthan under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The event was organized by WDRO, under the patronage of All India Convener BJP Weavers and Artisans Cell, Bijoy Bharti and was inaugurated by Santosh Gangwar, Chairman Financial Committee (Public Accounts) Govt of India. The event started with the lighting of a lamp.
In his inaugural speech, Gangwar said that the Government is aware of the problems of bunkers and is working towards the betterment of their living and life. He said this Government is making all its efforts to improve the working and living conditions of bunkers .
One among bunkers from each state was given opportunity to speak to bring to light, issues and problems bunkers are facing in their states. From J&K Vinod Koul spoke and said that Bunkars in the entire UT, especially in Jammu, face enormous problems due to the partisan attitude of political governments in implementation of various welfare schemes announced from time to time by the central government.
This resulted in the decline of the number of weavers and artisans. Their future generations shifted to other lucrative jobs instead of carrying on the traditional handloom weaving.
The National Convener, Bijoy Bharti also spoke on the occasion.
He asked delegates from different states to form 4 groups to sort out the issues, state bunkers face in their state and asked to put forward their recommendations to WDRO so that these can be placed before appropriate authority for action.
Sanjay Panda, ex-Secretary Textiles, GOI, shared his experience in dealing with the Handloom sector, he stressed upon improvement in quality of products by adopting modern techniques and resort to online digital marketing for better earnings. In the second session of the Manthan, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was chief guest, who while delivering his keynote address stressed upon to produce quality rather than quantity.
