As the delimitation exercise is in its final stage in Jammu and Kashmir, political parties are making preparations to participate in the elections that are likely to be held once the process is over.
During the past two years many new parties have emerged on the political arena. These formations are all set to give a tough fight to the traditional parties. The stage is getting set and the politicians will have to put their acts together as the new faces both in Jammu and Kashmir regions are reaching out to the common people and are urging them to give the young brigade a chance.
Once the delimitation exercise is completed, assembly and parliamentary constituencies will be redrawn and Jammu and Kashmir regions will have almost equal number of seats in the legislative assembly. It will be for the first time in the past seventy years that Jammu will be at par with Kashmir region.
Traditional politicians are once again trying to tell the people that they only can lead them and they are the only viable options. But it appears that these politicians are unaware of the fact that the scenario has changed and people have matured politically. Traditional politicians will have to go beyond rhetoric and lip service as these are not going to help their cause.
They will have to make people believe that they are truthful and they will stick to their word as the past experiences of the people with them have been bitter.
People of Jammu are hoping that whenever elections are held they would see a Dogra becoming the Chief Minister of J&K as for the past seventy years Kashmir centric politicians never allowed anyone from Jammu to occupy the CM’s office. Till August 5, 2019—when the Centre scrapped Article 370 and divided it into two union territories—Kashmir centric leaders used to project that no one from Jammu is eligible to become the Chief Minister. But now, the things have changed and Jammu seems to be all set to have its man in the hot seat. But the million dollar question is who will make it to the top. Will it be some veteran politician or a new face? Kashmiri politicians are not even in the race as their parties have crumbled and they have been left with nothing to sell.
