1300-year old Goddess Durga sculpture recovered in Khag area of Kashmir | | | Early Times Repoert
Sringar, Nov 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered an ancient sculpture of Goddess Durga of 1300 years old from Khag area in central Kashmir district of Budgam on Tuesday. Police said they recovered one ancient sculpture from Khag and accordingly a team of Archives, Archaeology and Museums of Jammu and Kashmir Government were called for examination. “After examining, the officials of the Archaeology established that the said sculpture is the sculpture of Goddess Durga (and dates back roughly to 7th AD (about 1300 years old),” a police statement said. He said the sculpture is carved in a black stone. “This sculpture is of goddess Durga seated on a lion throne, left side of the arm is missing from the shoulder, the sculpture is having the influence of Gandhara School of Art and right hand is holding lotus,” it added. The sculpture was later handed over to Deputy Director Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums J&K Government Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh, and his other officers by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam Tahir Saleem Khan |
