Jammu Super Speciality Hospital performs minimal access heart surgery on 40-yr-old | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 30: The Super Speciality Hospital of Jammu started minimal access heart surgery and in another first of its kind, Heart Valve was replaced in a 40-year-old female patient. An official communique issued by the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu on Tuesday said that the surgery was performed in the Department of CTVS, GMC, Jammu through minimal access method with a small incision in the crease (fold). The GMC spokesman said that this technique causes less bleeding and thus less need of blood transfusion, besides less pain and is cosmetically superior as the incision scar is fine and hides in breast crease. "The patient was sick with breathlessness and her heart beats were irregular and chaotic because her heart valve was narrowed and leaking," said the spokesman adding that besides she had low haemoglobin of 7.6 grams and low protein. The Ayushman Bharat Scheme covered the expenses for the equipment and drugs used during surgery and postoperative period. The surgical team consisted of Dr Shyam Singh (Surgeon) with Dr I.A Mir (Co-Surgeon), assisted by Dr Rauf and Dr Amit Thapa, Dr Arvind Kohli, Dr Mohit Arora, Dr Vivek Gandotra and Dr Javed. Principal Medical College Jammu Professor Dr Shashi Sudan visited the patient and congratulated the team effort and stressed that the people should utilise these facilities at their doorsteps under Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
