NEW DELHI, Nov 30: Doctors at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, conducted a complex sequential surgery of both knees, of Jayawati Rajput, who hails from Haridwar aged 70 years old suffering from multiple illnesses.
Being a patient of chronic heart disorder, Severe Aortic Stenosis (narrowing of the main blood vessel carrying blood from the heart) diabetes, compromised liver function, recent pancreatitis and thyroid issues, she has suffered from severe knee pain which could not be addressed because of life threatening issues cropping up one after the other over last 11 months.
In the process her pre-existing arthritis of knees worsened to an extent that she was in severe continuous pain and knee contracted in a bent position of 50 degrees. Having undergone a complex cardiac surgery and suffering from serious manifestations of pancreatitis, she couldn’t consult for an ongoing knee pain.
With passing time, her pain became unbearable and knees started to bend. Slowly her slightest of the leg movements also got restricted and she became bed ridden. Her knees started to contract and got approximately 50 degrees bent. From being somebody who could actually walk and go for her regular OPDs to being somebody who had to be lifted and taken to the washroom, Jayawati completely lost the hope of ever walking again.
Speaking about her condition, Dr. Yash Gulati, Senior Consultant Orthopaedics, Joint Replacement and Spine, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, said, “Administering a knee surgery to Jayawati, who was a patient of Aerotic Stenosis, along with multiple illnesses like liver derangement, pancreatitis and co-morbidities like thyroid and diabetes, didn’t come easy.
