The commander of the Army’s Chinar Corps, Lieutenant General, DP Pandey has taken a dig at the “country’s enemies who instigate others, especially youth, into becoming terrorists,” terming them ‘white-collared terrorists’. Addressing a gathering at the “Chillai Kalan Festival” in Shopian on December 16, General Pandey, who is the General Officer Commanding, Chinar Corps said: “In Kashmir, the death of any soldier or youth only makes the country’s enemies happy.” He said, “A large group of them (country’s enemies) is whom I called white-collared terrorists. They identify and instigate youth around them into becoming terrorists, they are the most dangerous.” “When such terrorist kills a common man or when a terrorist gets killed, the white-collar terrorists are the happiest,” he maintained. Requesting people not to get influenced by such forces, the GOC, Chinar Corps added, “It is the mother who suffers most on the death of her son, whether that son is a civilian, a security personnel, a gangster, a criminal or a terrorist.” The GOC’s remarks are a food for thought not only for the opinion-makers but the common people as well. The people of trouble-torn Kashmir in particular need to understand that over three decades of terrorism have fetched nothing beyond death and destruction. But then, supporting the anti-nationals is a means of bread and butter for the white collared terrorists, who support such ideology only to keep the pot boiling. The more the pot boils, the more their bread and butter is cooked, albeit on the blood of innocents. The time has come that the common people come out in public to condemn the terror incidents and their sympathizers because unless that happens the white collared terrorists will feel emboldened. Here white collared terrorism is no less deadly than the terrorism in itself because it’s the former, which fuels the latter. With a visible relation between the two deadly forces, the key to fighting terrorism lies in keeping check on the white collared terrorists. And, unless the nation unites to name them and shame them, the cycle of unending violence will continue to witness spike at the cost of peace and prosperity. |
