LG Admin lethargy responsible for deaths of devotees in Katra: Tony
1/1/2022 10:48:46 PM
Early Times Report
SUCHETGARH, Jan 1: Accusing Lt Governor Manoj Sinha's administration for showing sluggishness in managing the rush at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine which led to stampede, DDC Member Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony on Saturday said it was lethargy and carelessness of those sitting at helm which took away lives of so many people besides injuring others at Bhawan premises.
In a statement to media persons, the DDC member expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased pilgrims who were killed in the early Sunday morning stampede at Bhawan area in Katra. He however condemned the LG's administration for showing complete indifference in managing the Yatra on New Year eve as every single person in J&K knows well that Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine witnesses unprecedented rush at this time of the year and there is need to remain extra-cautious to avoid any kind of unfortunate incident. "This is complete failure of LG Sinha's administration and there is need to fix responsibility for the deaths which took place in Bhawan", Tony said, adding that the LG's administration has to take stringent action against those who failed to manage things at the spot which led to such a tragic incident in which people lost their loved ones in no time.
The DDC member said that he is more worried about the ensuing Yatra of Baba Amarnathji in south Kashmir because when the administration failed to manage this age old Yatra which never saw such kind of mismanagement how the same authority will manage the affairs of the Amarnathji Yatra which passes through difficult terrains and it is likely that this time the rush will be unprecedented. He said that the tragedy has exposed the ineptness of the J&K administration and the need of the time is to revamp the whole set-up and shunt out the deadwood manning the affairs of these pilgrimages as J&K is not in a position to afford any more tragedy.
"The stampede has exposed the poor working of LG's administration because under the successive governments, to which the incumbent government is very critical, such things never happened. The incident has exposed that the present dispensation in J&K believes more in self-praise but on ground the level of working is dismal", Tony said, adding that the government should revamp the entire set-up to ensure that no such thing reoccurs in future.
The DDC member also raised serious concern over the problems being faced by the pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine at Lakhanpur. He demanded that the people who got double of Covid vaccination should be allowed to enter J&K without any hassle. "If the Central Government allows people having a certificate of double dose of Covid vaccination coming from foreign countries at international airports then why is the J&K Government creating problems for people visiting Jammu and Kashmir," he added.
