Utterbehni: J&K Govt fails to make separate arrangements for women devotees, tirath stahan in shambles
1/2/2022 11:32:24 PM
Early Times Report

Samba, Jan 2: Thousands of devotees, including men and women, come to take a dip in Gupt Ganga at Utterbehni in this district every year but this tirath sthan is in shambles. There is no separate place for women to take a holy dip in the Gupt Ganga and the bathing places that were built for women to take bath have turned into garbage dumping places.
In 2008, the foundation stone was laid to develop this tirtah sthan but after that nothing much was done to maintain it.
The most unfortunate part is that the idols of Gods that people worship have been mismanaged. “It’s really sad that the government has just turned a blind eye towards this important religious place that is thronged by thousands of devotees every year. Women are left with no other option other than taking a dip in Gupt Ganga in presence of men, who turn their faces to the other side when women take a dip,” said a local.
He said that the tall claims of development are just confined to papers only as on the ground nothing much is happening. “In coming days devotees are expected to visit Utterbehni to take a dip and the administration has started making temporary arrangements.
But the government needs to find a permanent solution and the devotees who visit this tirath sthan they should ensure to maintain its cleanliness,” the residents said.
They urged LG Manoj Sinha to intervene and develop this religious place.
