Akhilesh promises free electricity, J&K Govt out to privatize power!
1/2/2022 11:32:47 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 2: Ahead of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has promised free power supply for irrigation and households if his party is voted to power. In a tweet the Samajwadi Party chief promised 300 units of free electricity to households. The Aam Aadmi Party had previously made a similar pledge in September 2021.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “In J&K the government has initiated the process to privatize the electricity, while as in other states, leaders are promising free power to the people. The difference is visible. The J&K government is out to make life difficult for a common man, while the governments in other places want to make lives easy for the people.”
He said, “People are paying a heavy price for J&K’s transition into a Union Territory. Different taxes have been imposed and no facilities are being provided. The power scenario across J&K is grim despite the government mulling to privatize the power sector.”
An observer said, “By scrapping Darbar Move practice the J&K administration has hit the Jammu economy hard. The winter was considered to be a business season but in the absence of people from Kashmir, the business is witnessing a slump.” He said, “The administrators in J&K should learn people-friendly lessons from the leaders of other states rather than acting like dictators.”
