Instead of conversion of Agri land, Govt should define Gair Mumkin khad: President CCI Jammu

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 5: Reacting on the Government’ change in land laws, the President Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) Jammu Arun Gupta said that instead of changing land laws for conversion of agriculture land for non agriculture purposes, the Government should focus on defining Gair Mumkin Khad lands, which will ultimately benefits for expansion of industries and economy of the UT.
“The major chunk of land of Jammu division is khad as only 25% land is cultivable and 50% is khad, so instead of conversion of agriculture land, the government should define Gair Mumkin Khad as this issue has been lying pending for last many years due to which people cannot purchase or sell the piece of land comes under this nomenclature,” Gupta said.
He further said that registries of land fall under Gair Mumkin Khad have been stopped due to a PIL filed in court demanding definition of Gair Mumkin Khand land but it has been more than five years that the government has failed to work on it to resolve this issue.
“There is a very small portion of land which is cultivable in Jammu as compared to its neighbouring states like Punjab, Haryana and very few crops are harvested and now with the new laws which will allow use of agricultural land for non agriculture purposes will totally vanish farming occupation,” he added.
He further said that industries should be developed in khad land instead of agriculture land but it is beyond understanding why the government has been delaying in defining khad land. Major part of Jammu district is actually khad including Chhanni, Trikuta Nagar, Narwal, some part of Akhnoor area, Janipur, Birpur, Sunjwana etc. even Samba district is also mostly a khad.
“Government is just looking at investment at the sake of agricultural land, Government has been seeing revenue of 5% as registry charges. All problems are being faced due to the absence of a popular government” he said.
