Gilli demands roll back of decision to change land usage | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 7: Core Committee Member & ex-President Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS), Surinder Singh Gilli demanded immediate rollback of the decision of change in land use. He said that There is no doubt the agriculture land utility in J&K has diminished during the last few decades owing to the growing population and housing requirements, but the government should at least ensure that in such circumstances permission for change of land use is not granted rampantly and, more so, not in favour of non-domiciles of J&K. He said that the fear of demographic change has never been far from peoples' minds and this change to the land use will only strengthen these fears. Besides the fact that this conversion of land use doesn't even require the fifteen year domicile certificate as a prerequisite, will also rekindle fears of demographic change. Gilli also said that in April 2012, the J&K High Court had passed directions against the misuse of agricultural land, sensing the enormity of crises. "Ours is a high altitude region, where land holdings are very less. Farmers in Jammu and Kashmir are officially recognized as marginal farmers because of very small agricultural land holdings estimated at 0.55 hectares during the agriculture census. This measure will further push them to wall," he said, calling for an immediate rollback of the amendment. Gilli demanded rollback of the decision, which is bound to cause restlessness in Jammu as well as in Kashmir. He urged the government not to disturb the land status in J&K as that would lead to further disappointment and restlessness among the people, which has to be avoided. |
