UT govt must take immediate measures before COVID-19 third wave: Yogesh Sawhney
1/9/2022 10:58:04 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 9: Senior Congress leader Yogesh Sawhney today called attention to the increasing number of Covid cases in Jammu & Kashmir and asked the administration whether the UT is prepared to handle a third wave of the virus, the likelihood of which is increasing by the day, he said. He said that there is an urgent need to address the spike in cases to prevent it from escalating any further.
"The DC office, the university and other centres of importance have come in contact with the virus and the administration needs to take strong measures instantly. He demanded that schools and universities should be shut down immediately and all necessary precautions and restrictions should be put in place moving forward," said Sawhney.
Sawhney said that government and certain private schools which remain open pose risk to students, teachers and staff. He said the universities remain open and many students have already been exposed to the virus and tested positive. He said that the government must shut down all educational institutions to prevent that from happening any more.
Sawhney said that the government must review the health infrastructure of J&K and assess whether we are prepared to handle a third wave of the pandemic. The UT cannot be unprepared and wait for things to worsen. Every precaution must be put in place beforehand and hospitals should be equipped to deal with any worst-case scenario.
Sawhney said that while the medical community must be prepared for any situation, the administration must start to take immediate steps to ensure that the situation does not worsen in any case. He said that reasonable restrictions should be put in place for the welfare of the community and guidelines around wearing masks, vaccinations, travel and non-essential movement should get more stringent considering the situation.
