2 Al-Badr militants killed in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 10: Security forces have shot dead two Kashmir militants from Al-Badr group in a gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, officials said. The fighting erupted on Sunday evening when the security forces launched a cordon and a search operation in Hasanpora village. "As the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hidden terrorists fired indiscriminately which was retaliated effectively. In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists of the proscribed terror outfit Al-Badr were killed," a police spokesman said. They were identified as Imad Muzaffar Wani of Arigam Pulwama and Abdul Rashid Thoker of Hassanpora Kulgam. "They were involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. Besides, Wani was involved in an attack on policeman Mushtaq Ahmad Wagay of Pulwama on December 19 in which the latter got seriously injured," the spokesman said. "Thoker, before joining the terrorist ranks, was working as a terrorist associate and was also involved in an attack on a civilian at Chitragam, injuring the civilian," he added. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the gunfight, the police said. Gunfights have picked up in Kashmir in recent weeks. This year, 13 militants including top commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad have been killed in Kashmir. |
