1/11/2022 11:07:18 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 11: A meeting was held at Panchayat Ghar, Athem under the presidentship of Nikhil Padha, Human Rights activist and founder Hartal for Harmony (Association for Protection of Human Rights). Hundreds of villagers of the Dalit community residing in the villages and hilly areas of Athem, Surinsar, Bajalta came to the location of the meeting and became a part of the collective vision of development of their respective villages.
The primary object of the meeting was to highlight and hold the administration accountable for their negligence of duty. Dalit women formed a majority of the population attending the meeting. These villagers face gross human rights violations as their basic necessities are not being fulfilled by the administration. There is a lack of road connectivity, water and electricity supply to these regions. The villagers have to travel a great distance to reach their desired location due to the lack of proper roads and face several forms of injustices at the hands of dereliction of duty by the administration and their representatives. Padha made the villagers aware of their legal and constitutional rights in such matters of violation and further heard their grievances.
Proper precautionary measures were taken at the location of the meeting which were in accordance with the government guidelines of COVID-19 and strict social distancing was maintained at all times.
