WD to cause light snowfall in Kashmir, Ladakh | | | EArly Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 16: Night temperature improved in Kashmir valley and Ladakh ahead of a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) that is likely to affect the weather till January 19 and may cause light rain or snowfall in the two union territories, a Meteorological office said on Sunday. There is no let up in freezing cold conditions as Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.2 degree Celsius against the minus 4.5 degree Celsius a day ago. A fresh WD is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir region till January 19 and may cause light rain or snowfall and moderate scattered to fairly widespread precipitation, A MeT office said. The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was recorded at minus 7.0 degree Celsius against the minus 9.5 degree Celsius the previous day which is 0.7 degree above normal. Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of minus 3.4 degree Celsius on Sunday against the minus 7.6 degree Celsius a day ago. Tourist resort of Pahalgam also in South Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.4 degree Celsus against minus 11.4 degree Celsius recorded on Saturday. Kokernag in South Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.5 degree Celsius against minus 7.2 degree Celsius recorded the previous day. The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was recorded at minus 2.1 degree Celsius against the minus 5.0 degree Celsius recorded a day ago. Leh recorded a low of minus 15.2 degree Celsius against minus 16.8 degree Celsius recorded the previous day while at automatic stations of Kargil settled at 18.6 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day on Sunday and Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia was recorded a low of minus 17.4 degree Celsius against the minus 27.6 degree Celsius recorded a day ago, official said.
