Locals aghast over dilapidated conditions of roads in Ganderbal

GANDERBAL, Jan 22: The development of any district is judged by the roads, but the locals of this central Kashmir’s district are aghast over the dilapidated condition of roads, otherwise this district was ruled by various politicians so for, but nothing concrete has been done in their favor.
As per the reports received, the main town of Ganderbal district is suffering badly due to dilapidated and muddy roads as the widening of road has not been from past several years.
The union government has allocated huge funds for the construction of roads under various centrally sponsored schemes, but they were not utilized in a proper way, and if we talk of today, especially in winter days even the light rain turns the roads into muddy and full of water which creates difficulties for commuters, shopkeepers, children and for general public, said a local resident of Ganderbal.
Bilal Ahmad Wani, social activist from Ganderbal district said that, as for as the development is concerned, the development of every district or area is known by the roads, but unfortunately our district lags behind in development.
“Many times in the past, we brought the issue of road widening into the notice of various successive governments and even concerned district administration, huge amount was allocated for the developmental works, but nothing concrete has been done on ground, adding now we are hopeful that the newly appointed DC will resolve this issue, said Wani.
Wani without naming any politician or bureaucrat, he further said that our district used to be a land of politicians, chief ministers, but despite that nothing was done for the betterment of this district, there should be an end of this traffic mess, we have many avenues that can be utilized in a proper way, theoretically much has been said so for but practically nothing was implemented with regard to development.
Another local resident of this central Kashmir’s district said that, from past three decades, there is dilapidated condition of roads, even though the demarcation of bypass was done, but so for district administration has failed to solve this main problem, there always remains a congestion of traffic of hours together
A group of locals said that, road widening is pending from past twenty years, otherwise this district was ruled by various politicians, but only hallow promises were made with us, there is nothing visible that can be appreciated.
They said that, roads in our district should have been put on priority as it connects vital areas from Srinagar, Ganderbal, Mansbal, Sonamarg and even Ladakh, adding during Amarnath yatra the traffic increases manifold.
We urge the district administrations, LG Manoj Sinha to look into the grievances of our district and direct the concerned authorities to maintain the roads and properly macadamize them before the start of tourism season.
