Manmohan Singh urges centre to grant OBC status to J&K Jats | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 25: All J&K Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) has urged the BJP led government at the centre to provide OBC status to the Jats residing in Jammu & Kashmir without any delay. In a statement, AIJMS President and former Mayor, Chaudhary Manmohan Singh said that the OBC status is a long due right of the community members faced discrimination for decades. Manmohan said that due to surge in Covid-19 cases across the Jammu & Kashmir the Sabha has suspended holding of physical meetings for short period. He said that he has directed the Tehsil level units to continue fight for grant of OBC status by holding meets at all levels adhering to Covid SOPs and CAB. Manmohan said that in 11 states, Jats are enjoying the benefits of OBC status while the Jats of Jammu & Kashmir continue to be deprived of the same. He said that Modi government has always been reiterating the commitment to provide equal rights to J&K people at par with people of the country but the Jats continue to face numerous problems on various counts here in Jammu and Kashmir despite abrogation of Articles 370 and Article 35A. |
