JU Department of Philosophy organizes an induction programme

JAMMU, Feb 1: Department of Philosophy, University of Jammu organized Induction Programme for newly admitted students of Master Degree Programme, batch 2022-2023. The keynote speaker for the induction programme was Prof. Nesy Daniel, formerly Dean, Faculty of Arts & Head Department of Philosophy, University of Kerala. In her introductory lecture, she emphasized why to study philosophy, Marginalization of philosophy, Philosophy at UNESCO, and Future perspectives in Philosophy. Never in the history of humanity has it been important to raise whole generations of excellent thinkers than it is today. Philosophy is the foundation of critical thinking. As society is very different today, the questions we face today are very challenging, critical, but problem-solving is at the forefront to make sense of those weighty problems. Philosophy brings the important questions to the table and works towards an answer. It encourages us to think critically about the world. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Manoj K. Dhar. In his address, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the Department of Philosophy for holding an induction programme for fresh batch and welcomed the newcomers to the Department of Philosophy and interacted with them on a virtual platform. He enthusiastically encouraged the students to follow the noble philosophical values of discipline in their everyday lives and contribute towards nation building. He mentioned that by adding one more department to the University of Jammu will help to explore the untouched parts of Philosophy as a subject where Vaishnavism and Sufism has a special role to play in the life and culture of the region. Earlier, Prof. Jasbir Singh, Head Department of Philosophy formally welcomed the guests and emphasized that the prime objective of the induction programme was to help the students to appreciate the importance of professionalism and values.
