Make things easy for unemployed youth | | | Educated unemployed youth staging continuous protest demonstrations in Jammu region are an indication that the situation vis-à-vis employment is not hunky-dory in the Union Territory. Unemployed youth are struggling to make their ends meet as the present dispensation has not been able fulfill the promises it had made to them. Class IV, Border Battalion, and other job aspirants are on streets trying to attract the attention of the helmsmen towards their plight. The government is claiming that the posts are being announced and the recruitment process has been expedited but the ground situation is contradictory to the claims. The recruitment process has been slow. The aspirants, who have applied for various posts are waiting for written examinations and interviews. The uncertainty has left them in a lurch and they are in dilemma. They have no idea about what the future holds for them. The recent exams conducted by the JKSSB have been caught into controversy due to non-transparency and use of unfair means. This led to aspirants staging putting a question mark on the credibility of the recruiting agency. The mismanaged CBT exams conducted by the JKSSB are yet another glaring instance of the SSB’s apathy. In these exams several candidates were unable to log in due to technical glitch and several could not mark their attendance. There are many issues which the helmsmen need to address but the unfortunate part is that they are busy with publicity stunts and other activities. The helmsmen have been trumpeting that milestones are being achieved and youth are being empowered but the unemployed youth staging protests and botched up recruitment processes have put a big question mark on these assertions. The people managing the JKSSB need to explain why the recruitment process is prolonged? Why can’t the selection be carried out on a fast track basis? Why do the candidates have to wait for years for the final selection list to come out? There are many flaws in policy making as only few officials are taking decisions on crucial issues. The government needs to take suggestions from youth and frame a new recruitment policy. The system needs to be revamped to make things easier for job aspirants. The old system has become outdated and it has not changed even after J&K’s transition into a Union Territory. |
