Jammu, Feb 10: Amid the tall claims of ensuring betterment in the power distribution system in Jammu and Kashmir, regular announcements pertaining to the outages have become quite a norm, leaving the locals helpless high, and dry.
Announcements being made by the power development department about the electricity curtailments are coming nonetheless as a shock for the students, traders, and small business owners who call these outages new ways to intimidate the locals. “Never in decades was the power system in Jammu and Kashmir so much in ruins as is today. We have seen the outages for the entire winter period this time. It looks like those helming this department are determent to push the masses towards the wall,” said a local shop owner in Samba area.
On social media also, while the curtailment schedule was being published, netizens in Jammu expressed their anguish over such highhandedness of the government and its indifferent attitude towards ensuring uninterrupted power supplies. “There were claims of better development made post abrogation of Article 370. Now, look at the power scenario now. Think about the small-scale industries and local businesses who are incurring huge losses due to such frequent outages,” wrote a Jammu-based internet user.
