Jammu, Feb 10: Amid the tall claims of ensuring betterment in the power distribution system in Jammu and Kashmir, regular announcements pertaining to the outages have become quite a norm, leaving the locals helpless high, and dry.
Announcements being made by the power development department about the electricity curtailments are coming nonetheless as a shock for the students, traders, and small business owners who call these outages new ways to intimidate the locals. “Never in decades was the power system in Jammu and Kashmir so much in ruins as is today. We have seen the outages for the entire winter period this time. It looks like those helming this department are determent to push the masses towards the wall,” said a local shop owner in Samba area.
On social media also, while the curtailment schedule was being published, netizens in Jammu expressed their anguish over such highhandedness of the government and its indifferent attitude towards ensuring uninterrupted power supplies. “There were claims of better development made post abrogation of Article 370. Now, look at the power scenario now. Think about the small-scale industries and local businesses who are incurring huge losses due to such frequent outages,” wrote a Jammu-based internet user. Pertinently, the department announced that the Power supply will be disrupted from February 10 due to necessary maintenance and repair work. In this, electricity will remain shut from 9 am to 4 am on February 10 in Chaudhary Lane, Shivalik Puram, Chinar, Bantalab, CRPF camp, and surrounding areas. “Similarly, in Nanak Nagar and adjoining areas, on February 10, 9 am to 3 am, in Gool, Dharma and adjoining areas from 10 am to 4 am on February 13, in Pathi, Pancheri, Mansar, Mongri and Bemag on February 12, 14 and 17 in the morning. Electricity will be off from ten to four o’clock. Samleh, Rakh, Karandi, Kalibari, Ramnagar, and adjoining areas will remain shut from 10 am to 3 pm on February 10.
In Samba, Dansal Mandi, Trilokan Di Chapdi, Tahlora Mandi, Sangwali Mandi, Garh Mandi, and adjoining areas, electricity will remain shut from 10 am to 4 pm on 11th. On February 12, 14, 16, and 18 in Billawar, Parnala and surrounding areas from 9 am to 4 am, in Ward 12, 13 and surrounding areas on February 13 and 15 from 9 am to 2 am, in Old Saroor and surrounding areas on February 11. Electricity will remain shut from 9 to 3 in the morning.
