Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Traffic Cops allegedly thrashed and injured a civilian in South Kashmir's Qazigund on Monday.
Injured civilian was identified as Shafaqat Aslam Bhat, a resident of Nowgam Banihal. Bhat suffered injuries and was treated at Qazigund Emergency Hospital. As per reports, a verbal brwal broke out between some passengers and traffic a police personnel after the latter, according to him, damaged glass of a vehicle stranded along the road.
"The traffic police personnel, some six in number, dealt several blows to one of the passengers namely Shafaqat Aslam Bhat of Nowgam Banihal, leaving him severely injured.
Official sources said that injured was taken to a nearby hospital at Qazigund from where the doctors referred him to GMC Anantnag for advanced treatment.
The incident has angered Banihal residents, especially truck drivers who alleged that they were facing problems at Qazigund as and when Highway shuts due to adverse weather conditions.
"The traffic police has been conveyed multiple times to allow oil tankers through tunnel during bad weather but still they don't allow us and always misbehave with us by hurling abuses," they alleged.
Noted Activist, Ilyas Banihali also condemned police action and demanded registration of FIR against the cops who thrashed Banihal resident at Qazigund.
In the evening, Deputy Commissioner Banihal again wrote to SSP National Highway and asked him to convey the decision of allowing oil tankers through Banihal-Qazigund tunnel during bad weather
