Who is instigating employees’ association war' in KU? | Officers, employees spar openly as University turns battleground before reopening | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 28: The academic atmosphere in the Valley's highest chair of learning has deteriorated so much that the University has now turned into a full-scale battleground for infighting between employees and officers under the nose of the present regime. On February 21, Kashmir University Ministerial Staff Association (KUMSA), a body comprising nearly 3000 employees, issued a detailed press statement alleging serious financial irregularities by the present dispensation at KU. The KUMSA also alleged serious nature complaints of fraud by the present administration including backdoor appointment of some casual workers, release of payments worth millions without following codal procedures and making huge medical reimbursements without referrals, among other things. In response to this, the Kashmir University administration issued a detailed press statement accusing some KUMSA members of tarnishing the image of the University with "false allegations." The administration warned KUMSA members of action under rules if they violated the service conduct rules. On Monday, Kashmir University Officers Association came out with a press release against KUMSA in a local newspaper to defend the "present dispensation" in the Kashmir University. On the other hand, the Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA) is also being pressurised by some teachers to issue a press statement in favour of the present KU administration, which has suffered a serious credibility dent with the allegations levelled by KUMSA which are being probed by Raj Bhawan and some other government agencies. According to seasoned voices in the University, it is for the first time in KU's history that the academic and administrative atmosphere has got vitiated to this extent that associations of employees, teachers and officers are being deliberately pitted against each other to propagate the 'divide and rule' politics. "We appeal to the honourable Chancellor to immediately intervene in saving this institution from such unhealthy practices. Heads must roll over this anarchy which has plagued the University at the cost of welfare of students," they said. Interestingly, many employees believe that some officers who are on the verge of retirement in the next few months are backing the present administration to get extensions beyond retirement. "The Raj Bhawan should immediately order a probe into all this mess happening in the University to save this prized institution from falling prey to association wars. It should be a cause of concern as to who is instigating this association war days before the campus is scheduled to reopen?" the insiders said. "Is there a big ploy involved in all this? Who is doing this hanky-panky and why? Are there some people in the KU administration who are benefiting from this kind of a messy situation? Who has pushed the University into chaos and confusion as never seen before." |
