Bring Them Back
3/1/2022 11:53:58 PM
With the reopening of schools children have returned to their institutions. But many unlucky ones have given up their studies and have taken up menial jobs to support their families.
The Covid-19 pandemic broke the back of the children from weaker sections of the society as the digital divide deprived them of online classes and they lost touch with the studies. Children of poor families during pandemic were unable to afford hi-tech gadgets to stay connected with the virtual classrooms and online teaching methods.
Even their parents lost jobs due to lockdowns imposed by the pandemic. There is no exact data about how many children have opted out of schools during these past two years but the enrollment in the government schools has declined.
Children from the weaker sections of the society have been the worst sufferers as they have ended up with no other option other than calling it quits.
The pandemic has almost ended and life has started returning to normal. The children who have left the schools need to be brought back so that they at least acquire the elementary education. It’s the collective responsibility of the society as well as the government to ensure that these kids don’t opt out from the schools at tender age. They need to be provided with an opportunity to shape up their lives. One can understand that pandemic has deteriorated the financial condition of the people and the earnings have been hit. But that doesn’t mean that the system should turn its back towards such families and leave them in lurch.
The government needs to conduct a proper survey to ascertain the number of children who have decided to say goodbye to schools and are working as a help at mechanic shops, hotels and other places. If the government wants it can easily sponsor the studies of these children. Their families can be made to understand that the future and career of these children cannot be ruined and if they study they can do something in their lives. If the students from weaker sections of the society are left out at this point of time, it can even affect the coming generations. A collective effort is needed to bring all children back to schools whom the pandemic has hit hard.
