After 25-years we stand demoted: VDC, SPOs
3/5/2022 1:48:25 AM

Early Times Report

Doda, Mar 4: Village Defence Committee SPOs staged a protest here on Friday against the recent decision of the government to bring them at par with voluntary members of VDCs.
Protesters said, “We have been serving as VDC, SPOs for the past 25-years due to which we were deprived of all the benefits. The salaries that were deposited in our account were distributed among the voluntary VDC members.”
They said, “According to the new decision we have been demoted and our honorarium has been reduced to Rs 4500/ per month. Instead of absorbing us permanent employees of the police department we have been designated as volunteers.
It means for the past 25-years we were given a lollipop of us being a part of J&K Police.”
They demanded that the government reconsider its decision on VDC, SPOs and provide them with the benefits at par with the regular employees of J&K Police. “During all these years we fought the militants and played a major role in stamping out the militancy from hilly areas of Jammu region and at the end we have been dumped,” they added.
