Poor drainage system irks Upper Muthi Talab residents
3/15/2022 12:16:48 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 14: Poor drainage continues to haunt the residents of Upper Muthi Talab area on the city outskirts. The problem of water logging in the lanes is a constant feature in the lives of the locals of Upper Muthi Talab as their locality lacks a proper drainage system that has not been addressed for a long time.
The troubles of the locals further aggravate as and when there is a slight rainfall which inundates the entire lane. When the connecting roads get submerged, the inhabitants of the area could be seen hopping from one side of the lane to another to avoid wading through the dirty water stagnated on the road. "Due to the spreading of drain water on the road, reaching the houses has also become a problem especially for children and elderly persons," said the residents.
They further said that for the past several years, it is an everyday struggle for the residents as sewage stagnates here almost throughout the year.
Stagnant dirty water right in front of the houses in the area not only raises a stink but also has become the breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects.
"The stagnant sewage also poses a serious health threat to the residents, especially children, who often fall sick because of water borne diseases,” the residents said.
Upset over the non-drainage of dirty water, the inhabitants of the area said that due to lack of proper drainage system the water not only gets stagnated in the streets but it also enters their houses.
"We have requested the municipal authorities several times to establish proper drainage, but to no avail," said the locals.
"The authorities have failed to address the issue even after repeated requests and complaints," they added.
The residents of the area have appealed to the Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation to take up the corrective measures so that they could get rid of the problem and heave a sigh of relief.
