Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 21: What could once again expose the questionable function of the present Jammu and Kashmir administration are the latest figures on unemployment in the erstwhile state- depicting a grim picture of the functioning of the government in tackling the menace effectively.
A report titled “Periodic Labour Force Survey April-June 2021” released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has revealed that the unemployment figures among educated youth in J&K have reached 46.3 percent, the second-highest in India.
Such startling figures have put a serious question mark on the efficacy of the government that so far has been claiming that has made positive strides vis-à-vis ending the unemployment and providing educated youth viable opportunities for livelihood generation. “This is yet another instance when the tall claims of the government have been unmasked. This has led to wide-scale speculations about how the government has been utterly failing to deliver on the ground.
In spite of being in possession of ample resources, the bureaucratic raj is ruining Jammu and Kashmir in more ways than one,” says a netizen while commenting on the latest findings of the survey.
In the meantime, the government figures as old as six years reveal that the number of highly qualified educated youth was only swelling with each passing day.
The government has not even deemed it necessary to regularize the services of daly wagers in Jammu for decades and that their hardships are being undermined and sadistically ignored by the government sans any compunction.
Pertinent to mention here that according to the latest survey done by various government and non-government organizations, the unemployment rate for Males in JK was 3.2 percent only while the rate of females was a whopping 20.2 percent. In neighboring states like Punjab, it is 5.6% while in Haryana it is 4.8%. In Delhi, it is 4.3% and in Himachal Pradesh, the rate is 2.2%.
Meanwhile, people are asking the LG administration to become accountable and tell the common masses the details of what good they have achieved in terms of addressing the joblessness in Jammu and Kashmir and that is why the highest number of unemployed youth are in Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is humiliating to the core for the administration here. On every front, it is failing to yield results. Now there are fears looming large that in the coming times, the numbers of joblessness could spike further,” writes a social media user.
On the government front, there is silence and no comment has been given over the latest figures.
