‘Babu Raaj’ behind public alienation in JK, people tell Subramainyam Swamy
4/2/2022 11:36:03 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar 2: Even as Member Parliament and senior Bharatiya Janta Party leader Subramainyam Swami on April 2 visited Kashmir to attend Navratra celebrations, the top politician was told by people that “Babu giri” of some officials was a main reason behind the “growing public alienation” in Jammu and Kashmir and that Modi government must intervene.
During his address at a function held in connection with the Navratri celebrations in Srinagar, Swamy said the government was committed to the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandits in their homeland and also ruled out the restoration of the pre-August 5, 2019 status of J&K.
While the event was attended by people from various sections of the society, before leaving back for New Delhi, he gave audience to scores of delegations who had come to meet him. Some of the delegations told Swamy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Naya Jammu and Kashmir was being “sabotaged” by a section in the administration, which is often accused of “ruthless corruption and maladministration.”
The delegations told the visiting dignitary that he needs to apprise the Modi government in New Delhi that things need to be “set in order” in Jammu and Kashmir by making bureaucracy accountable.
Swamy gave a patient hearing to the people and assured them that their grievances would be looked into. One of the guests at the venue told the Early Times that if Modi government opts for a crackdown on the officials who are accused of corruption, the BJP can emerge as most popular party even in Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention that the Raj Bhawan has been facing criticism that it was focusing more on hosting musical concerts and other festivities to give a “rosy picture” whereas even the issues of security were being seemingly ignored in the wake of spike in terror strikes, while public grievances get ignored.
Some of the officials on deputation are accused of corruption and maladministration but that the Raj Bhawan continues to allegedly “shield them.”
Such officials are calling shots in a way that they want to gag any voices which want to expose corruption or their misadventures. Interestingly, the Early Times is one such victim, which is being denied its share of government revenue in the form of advertisements, as the same has been stopped for writing against corruption in the J&K government.
Today similar complaints of “babu raaj” reached the ears of senior BJP leader Swamy.
