MP Chief Minister comes up with rehabilitation plan for beggars, JK Admin clueless
4/4/2022 11:58:33 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 4: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has emphasized on the need to end the practice of begging on the streets in Ujjain, the seat of one of the 12 ‘Jyotirlingas’ of Lord Shiva.
He has suggested that a mass feast should be held regularly for the poor and their children to discourage begging.
“Some ‘Anandak’ centres should also be set up where people can donate the stuff which is useless for them while other people can take them as per their requirement,” Chouhan said, adding that the state government would pay the fees for the education of all such children.
An observer while talking to Early Times said, “The J&K Government should take a cue from the MP Chief Minister and come up with a similar kind of mechanism to deal with beggars in Jammu, the city of temples.”
He said, “The J&K administration keeps on making tall claims about turning Jammu into a Smart City but on ground no such steps are being taken which can indicate that Jammu is turning into a Smart City. If the government really wants to translate its slogans into reality it needs to take measures on the ground level rather than building castles in the air.”
It’s in place to mention here that one can see beggars everywhere in Jammu city. There is no mechanism to prevent these beggars from roaming in the streets. People make huge donations in temples and shrines. These can be used for setting rehabilitation homes for beggars, where they can be provided with the basic facilities to live a decent life.
