Udhampur: ‘Dial 108’ ambulance service asks patients to wait for 12 hours

Udhampur, Apr 7: Central Government has provided two 108 ambulance to district hospital Udhampur for emergency refer patients but The Dial 108 service is not performing to the satisfaction of the public in Udhampur town and there is lot of resentment against the same.
Some people who tried to avail service of Dial 108 informed that when they dialled the number they were asked to wait for about 1-2 hours.
However, some well places sources informed that intervention of Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Udhampur or Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Udhampur may improve the service.
They also informed that the District Hospital Udhampur has three to four ambulances of its own which are rarely put in the services of the needy patients.
A resent incident has come to fore wherein poor Dial 108 service resulted in death of a patient.
In March month of this year, an attendant of a patient (rattan ) visited to his unwell relative at DH Udhampur from where the patient was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
They dialled 108 and waited for one hour but the ambulance not arrived after which hospital suggested them a local ambulance which developed snag en-route and near about two and half hour late the patient to reached GMC Jammu results the patient died due to late reach in hospital“, said ex mla Balwant Singh Mankotia
If 108 ambulance provided to timely that patient so he was not died “, he maintained and adding that action should be taken against those employees of 108 services who are not providing proper ambulance service to the patients .
The beleaguered people of Udhampur have appealed to the higher ups in health department and other concerned persons to look into the matter.
When contacted Medical Superientendent DH Udhampur, Dr Vijay Raina said they have nothing to do with the Dial 108 services.
On own ambulances of the DH he said that they provide the ambulances on charging fuel expences but charge nothing from poor people.
