Smart City project deviated from purpose, expectations: Shiv Sena
4/12/2022 11:36:36 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 12: Shiv Sena J&K Unit strongly opposed the installation of LED/TV and smart parking on the narrow roads under the guise of Smart City project, terming it as wasteful expenditure and not the right purpose and expectations of a Smart City.
In this regard, a delegation of Shiv Sena headed by Manish Sahni, President J&K called on the Divisional Commissioner Dr. Raghav Langar and submitted a memorandum in support of their demands.
Sahni said that the people who cherished the hopes of development under Smart City project including 24-hour electricity, water, jam-free roads, better public transport and strong education and health infrastructure are facing disappointment.
“The work is being done to fill the pockets of the contractors by wasting the tax money of the public.
Unnecessary LEDs have been installed on the main roads of the city, which can invite road accidents by diverting the attention of the drivers. “On the other hand, construction of smart parking without widening of roads and robbing the public under the guise of parking by contractors does not seem appropriate from any point of view,” he said.
Sahni said that the purpose of installing LEDs on the roads is being told to give information about government schemes of public interest and to broadcast programs like Prime Minister's Mann Ki Baat whereas on heavy traffic roads this type of transmission will invite a new trouble.
Sahni urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and give necessary directions for removing the LEDs and smart parking from the roads in view of public interest.
He said that if the decision is not taken in favor of the aforesaid demands, then Shiv Sainiks will be forced to take to the streets and protest.
General Secretary Vikas Bakshi, Media Advisor Deepak Sharma were also present on the occasion.
