BIS organizes awareness programme for progressive farmers at KVK Kathua

KATHUA, Apr 12: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Jammu & Kashmir organized an awareness programme for the progressive farmers at Krishi Vigyan Kendra -Kathua.
The programme was attend ed by more than 50 farmers and input dealers from different villages and KVK officials.
Dr. Vishal Mahajan, Head KVK Kathua in his welcome address gave a brief outline of the awareness programme stating that the motto of KVK is to educate, support and promote farmers who are the backbone of our economy.
This BIS awareness programme would help farmers in improving the quality of inputs for the agricultural which will definitely result in increased output.
Nisha Bura, Joint Director of BIS JKBO talked about the role of Indian Standards in change-over from conventional farming to sustainable agriculture which can be achieved through the efficient use of farmland, best agricultural practices, quality seeds, compost, pesticides, etc.
BIS has formulated more than 2100 standards from farm to fork covering agriculture management, agriculture produce, animal husbandry & animal based products, food processing, water and food safety.
Use of these agriculture standards will empower farmers to become self-reliant.
Bura urged the scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras to transmit the benefits of Indian Standards especially code of practices for storage and transportation, good agricultural practices etc. to the farmers of country.
She also informed about initiatives taken by BIS to support women entrepreneurs, startups and micro-scale industry such as 50 percent rebate on BIS Certification Licence Minimum Marking Fee and Cluster Based Test Facility by MSMEs.
She called upon the farmers-cum-entrepreneurs such as pickle/dairy products manufacturers, bee keepers and saffron producers to utilize the schemes for ISI branding of their products.
She also demonstrated ‘BIS Care App’ through which information on Indian Standards, authenticity of ISI Mark of products and Hallmark of jewellery can be checked.
BIS Care App can also be used to register complaints regarding the quality of the product or misuse of ISI mark. Awareness.
The programme was coordinated by Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion officer, BIS JKBO.
