Protests against unprecedented power cuts, erratic water supply

JAMMU, Apr 27: Residents of Ward No 14 in Kathua city and locals of Samba town today held separate protest demonstrations against erratic power and water supply.
Protesting residents of Ward No 14, Kathua demanded proper supply of electricity and water so that the people who are facing immense hardships could heave a sigh of relief.
“We don’t have electricity and not a drop of water in our households. Life has become a hell for us. Government should take immediate steps to improve this pathetic situation,” said a local.
Several other protesters said that the present power curtailments and erratic water supply have created a mess in their normal lives.
“Unscheduled power outages are causing immense hardships to the people while lack of adequate water supply has added to their woes,” said the residents.
The PHE Department and Power Development Department (PDD) seem to care little about the condition of residents of this area as both these departments have failed in their duty to ensure regular and proper water as well as electricity supply.
Irked over the irregular as well as inadequate water and power supply in Ward No 14, several residents of the locality expressed their resentment against the authorities.
The aggrieved residents claimed that they don't receive regular water supply, adding that whatever little they are getting in the name of water supply is insufficient to meet their daily needs.
“There is not even a drop of water in the supply pipes for the past six-seven days due to which we are facing many hardships in this sweltering heat. And what to talk about power scenarios. Undeclared electricity cuts are taking a heavy toll on us in hot weather conditions. Power remains snapped most of the time but the situation gets worse particularly during night hours,” the locals said.
Meanwhile, protests against the water and electricity departments were also reported from Saba town.
Locals of Samba staged a strong protest against the PDD and PHE Department against frequent power curtailments and irregular water supply
Annoyed over the frequent power outages and erratic water supply, the residents of Samba town criticized the administration for the unprecedented situation during the peak summer.
Raising slogans against the authorities, the protesters alleged that there has been no power supply to them for most of the time as the department was resorting to unscheduled power curtailments while the PHE Department has also failed to provide them regular water supply.
