Unbelievable! 43 ghost schools have 76 teachers but no students
4/29/2022 11:10:59 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Apr 29: As many as 43 government schools that exist in Udhampur district have 76 teachers but not even a single student. Teachers are being paid without taking classes.
This startling revelation has come to light through an RTI reply. It has been reported that 43 government run schools spread across Udhampur district have 76 teachers posted in them even though there are no students enrolled and studying in these schools. The teachers who are ‘serving’ in these schools draw reasonable salaries without doing any work on any of the working days. As of now, these schools are proving to be a burden on the state’s limited resources. The administration is paying these teachers without taking any service from them which they are entitled to do. Locals of several areas where these schools are located said that the J&K government and its School Education Department are answerable for their lack of vision to attract enrollment of students in government schools, adding that the teachers appointed there are equally responsible as they fail to convince people to admit their wards in government educational institutions. “The School Education Department, which every now and then claims that it is committed to improve the standard of education in government schools, is under scanner for its unprofessional approach and gross negligence,” they said. “If there are no students in such ghost schools, no approvals for appointing new teachers should be given henceforth,” they added.
