CHENANI, May 10: GDC, Chenani under the auspices of its NSS Unit, Anti-Cyber Crime Wing, IQAC and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organized a webinar on Prevention of Cyber Crime: CYBER HYGIENE on 10/05/2022 at 11:30 AM to celebrate the Initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs in implementing a scheme under Indian cybercrime coordination (I4C).
The Resource Person on the occasion was Wahid Farooq, who, while stressing on the need for cyber crime awareness with the increased dependence on IT post-pandemic enumerated the steps that should be taken to secure personal information. Wahid Farooq presented a Power point presentation on CYBER HYGIENE which was about training oneself to form good habits around cyber security so that one can stay ahead of cyber threats and online security issues. Cyber hygiene aims to maintain hardware and software's basic health and security, ensuring they are protected from threats such as Malware. Practiced regularly, cyber hygiene helps to keep data safe and secure. As with any habit we want to entrench, cyber hygiene requires routine and repetition. Building a routine around cyber hygiene will help prevent cybercriminals from causing security breaches or stealing personal information. It will also help us to keep up to date with software and operating systems.
He further showed animated Video on Cyber Hygiene and discussed some of the problems which cyber hygiene is designed to address like Data loss, Out of date software, Older antivirus besides Security breaches, Password Changes, Software Updates, Hardware Updates, Managing New Installs, Back Up Data, Employing a Cyber Security Framework etc.
The Principal of the College, Dr. Pragya Khanna exhorted that Cyber hygiene isn't a one-off event, it's something that has to be practiced regularly. She said one can create habits by setting automated reminders or adding dates to the calendars for different tasks. These might include scanning for viruses using antivirus software, changing our passwords, keeping apps, software, and operating systems up to date, and wiping your hard drive. Once we get the hang of cyber hygiene, it becomes part of your regular personal cyber security routine.
