Sensing trouble, Kashmir University staffers ‘disappear’ from social media | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 26: Even as the government is likely to sack around one dozen Kashmir University employees for their involvement in anti-national activities, scores of the varsity employees have “disappeared” from the social media platforms. While the government recently dismissed from services, a Kashmir University professor of Chemistry department for his alleged support to the militancy, more faces from the teaching and the non-teaching staff are likely to be sacked in the coming days. In the wake of the development, scores of the Kashmir University employees have either deleted their social media accounts on the platforms like Facebook and Twitter or have de-activated the same. Sources said from the Kashmir University professors to those in the non-teaching sections, the social media accounts are missing. “We have seen that most of their accounts are not visible anymore nowadays,” said an official. Sources said the employees have apprehensions that their social media accounts may become a “undue problem for them and thus the same has been deleted.” “You never know if in the past someone had posted or shared any content or news item even unwittingly which may be treated as anti-national by the government and that is the possible reason behind the disappearance because nobody wants to get into any trouble,” said a KU employee on the condition of anonymity. The Modi government has launched a major crackdown on the varsity in Srinagar for the alleged involved of its employees in the anti-national activities or the promotion of anti-India sentiment among the student community in particular. As per reliable sources, the government has prepared a list of around one dozen employees including professors and those in the non-teaching wing whose credentials have been declared as anti national by a special team assigned the task of preparing such lists. Such employees are likely to sacked from the services in the coming days. Such employees are removed from their position following the recommendation of a designated committee constituted under Article 311 (2) (c) of the Constitution that allows dismissal without an inquiry in the interest of the State's security. |
