GDC Udhampur organizes an Extension Lecture on Biotechnology

JAMMU, May 28: "Exploring Biotechnology as a tool for amelioration of health issues and meeting future food security challenges will go long way in the service of mankind and mother nature" said Dr.Shelley Sehgal, a Faculty at the Centre for Molecular Biology, Central University of Jammu, Jammu while speaking in an extension lecture organized by the Department of Botany Govt. Degree College (Boys) Udhampur today. Dealing in detail on the theme 'Biotechnology, principles, applications and future prospectus, she discussed both about the challenges and future prospectus of Transgenic plants. Referring to the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic and then the development of covid-19 vaccines, she substantiated the usage of various biotechnological techniques and their role in our day to day life quoting various examples for the understanding of the students.
Earlier the program began in the college conference hall with the formal welcome of the resource person by Prof.Seema Kotwal, Senior most faculty of the college. Prof. kotwal underlined the objectives of organizing such kind of extension activities and exhorted upon the students to explore opportunities in such fields and subjects where they can contribute more in welfare of mankind. Whole program was organized under the patronage of the principal of the college Prof.(Dr.) Romesh K.Gupta. Prof.B.L.Thakur presided over the event. In his presidential remarks Prof. Thakur lauded the efforts of the faculty of Botany Department for organizing such useful activity for giving exposure and awareness to the students.
Over hundred students of B.Sc.Semester VI attended the lecture and participated actively in post prestation interactive session where the resource person addressed all the queries of the students.
Prominent among others who attended the program include Prof.Romesh Kr.Atri, Head department of Botany, Prof.Jawaid Sarver and Dr.Swarn Singh.
Prof. Shivani Sharma, Asstt. Prof. Department of Botany performed as stage in charge and coordinated the event while Dr.Rozy Bamba of the Department of Botany proposed formal vote of thanks on the occasion.
