IGNOU organises webinar on topic "Yoga at Workplace and its benefits"

JAMMU, May 31: The International Day of Yoga (IDY) is celebrated every year on 21st June. This year the IDY is going to be focused on India Branding with extensive promotions across the boundaries through various platforms including print, digital, social media, etc. As a part of this initiative the Indira Gandhi National Open University has planned to hold a series of activities across all Regional Centres of India. As a part of the Yoga Mahotsav 2022 campaign, commemorating the countdown to International Day of Yoga 2022, IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu organized a Webinar on the topic "Yoga at Workplace and its benefits" on 31.05..2022 at 11AM through various online platforms.
Dr. Shreyansh Kumar Jain, the internationally famous Yoga expert and State Chairman, International Yoga Association was chief guest and key speaker on the occasion. Dr. Vikram Singh, Regional Director I/C, Dr. Sandeep Gupta, ARD and Dr. Asha Upadhyay, ARD welcomed the chief guest. Several Coordinators of Learner Support Centres of IGNOU in Jammu region participated in the event. Students of Certificate Programme in Yoga (CPY) associated with the LSC 1206, Govt. Degree College, Kathua also participated in the event. Some of the Regional Centres like RC Koraput, RC Dehradun also marked their presence in the virtual event. The staff of the RC also joined the programme. Dr. S.K. Jain made the participants aware about the importance of making Yoga the way of life. Dr. Jain explained how yoga symbolizes the union of body and conscience. Dr. Jain also demonstrated different Yoga postures that can be performed by employees while in sitting postures in their respective places of work. He explained that Office yoga at workplace is an extremely beneficial way to improve the energy levels and relieve pain in the lower back area. He informed that when a person has been sitting for too long, and is ready for a stretch break, there are plenty of moves he or she can do right where he or she is sitting. It will counter the negative effects of stress, burnout, and prolonged desk sitting, he said.
Dr. Sandeep Gupta, ARD, acquainted the audience about the backdrop of celebration of International Day of Yoga and shared his views about the benefits of yoga. Dr. Asha Upadhyay, ARD, expressed her views about yoga being an important source of exercise and healthy activity and called upon everyone to do it and practice on daily basis.
Dr. Vikram Singh, RD I/C, appealed the participants and staff members to spare a few minutes during the course of work for Yoga on daily basis, so as to remain healthy, fit and stress-free.
