ACB keeps corrupt on toes | | | Recently Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praised the Anti Corruption Bureau for working tirelessly to ensure transparency in the governance system. During the past two years the ACB has acted tough against the corrupt elements. The genuine complaints have been looked into and the officials found involved in corruption have been booked for indulging in wrong practices. The ACB acting tough against the corrupt employees has brought a sea change in the work culture in government offices. The employees are aware that they are being watched and one single complaint can end their careers. The crusade against corruption has created fear and has made the government employees accountable. The ACB has not shied away from taking action against even the top-ranking officials. Whosoever, has crossed the line has faced the music. The anti-graft agency is no longer considered as a toothless tiger. It has got more teeth during the past two years. Grievance redressal and preventive mechanisms have added a new dimension to the vigilance work to curb malpractices. Initiatives like Satark Nagrik application and Departmental Vigilance Officers portal are playing a key role in the effective and right dissemination of information to all stakeholders, and have led to better vigilance work. The ACB has been using the latest technologies to work on the complaints that are forwarded to the bureau and the genuine complainants are getting justice. Gone are the days when the ACB used to be under political pressure and it was unable to act against the big fishes. The anti-graft agency has been given a freehand to act against anyone it has got the evidence. After J&K’s reorganization the jurisdiction of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) too has been extended to J&K and the CBI too has been acting swiftly on the complaints which it has been receiving. The anti-graft agencies keeping a close vigil to a great extent have ended the “open culture of corruption” but still a lot needs to be done to put the system right. The ACB has got a new office in Srinagar and it has been equipped with the latest technology and gadgets. The people need to come forward and register the bribery complaints. The anti-graft agencies are there to help the common man and book the accused. |
