GDC Vijaypur celebrated "World Bicycle Day"

JAMMU, June 3: Government Degree College, Vijaypur celebrated World Bicycle Day under the Flagship banner of "Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav". To mark the significance of the day, a bicycle riding competition was organized on the theme "Ride Bicycle: Save Environment & Be Fit" on 03-06-2022. This event was an endeavor to spread awareness about the benefits of using a bicycle. The day was aimed at making students more active through simple activities including cycling. NSS volunteers and other students participated in the event with great zeal, enthusiasm and fervor; relishing the competition, vital information dissipated and enriching ideas shared and put forth.
The participants rode the bicycle for strengthening education, saving environment, preventing diseases, including physical exercise, promoting tolerance, and facilitating social inclusion through cycling. The participants also acknowledged the versatility and longevity of the bicycle which served as a sustainable means of transport for centuries.
The event was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the college. She apprised that the theme "Ride Bicycle: Save Environment & Be Fit" must be followed vigorously in our daily lives as a bicycle is a clean, pollution free, affordable, environment-friendly mode of transportation and promoting its use contributes to the conservation of nature and achieving cleaner air and environment; also contributes in achieving better health, fitness and immunity. The event was coordinated by Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (NSS PO) and adjudicated by Dr. Shittal Sharma and Prof. Poonam Kundan. E-certificates were awarded to all the participants.
