Poor quality material used in APDRP puts lives of people at risk

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 4: The blasting of cables and electronic meters has once again exposed the power quality of cables and other infrastructures installed during the PDD-BJP regime.
It is believed that the poor quality cables installed under the centrally sponsored scheme in Jammu during that period and such compromise with quality is largely responsible for the extremely chaotic state of affairs.
There are large-scale complaints of the bunch cables used during that period. These cables are getting heated after taking the load for a couple of hours and then getting burnt. The then PDP-BJP government despite charging a hefty power tariff had cheated the public. It was the result of that regime that the scheduled and unscheduled power cuts continued unabated despite the installation of much-publicized new cables and electronic meters. The Aerial Bunched Cables (ABC) and transformers installed during that period are repeatedly catching fires, multi-crore Restructured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) being executed by IRCON International Limited has turned into another failed attempt to revamp power sector in the J&K. Even senior government officials had expressed their reservations about the success of the project as High Tension/ Low Tension (HT/LT) power cables with a plastic coating, transformers and high utility meters have failed at testing stage in several areas in the city.
