Reasi Campus University of Jammu celebrates World Environment Day

JAMMU, June 10: World Environment Day was celebrated on the theme "Only One Earth" in Reasi Campus, University of Jammu on 10th June 2022 to mark World Environment Day 2022 by UNEP to raise the awareness to protect our environment. On this occasion lectures, poster presentation and plantation drive was organized by the faculty members and students of the Reasi Campus. The students of both the semester displayed the posters on the various themes of the environmental issues like biodiversity loss, green house gasses impact , global warming and the awareness to the society to protect our environment. Prof. S. K. Pandey, Director of Reasi Campus deliberated on key aspects of global warming situation in the world and its major causes as well as the main contributors to the global warming in his lecture. He also explained on the issue of depletion of ozone concentration in the stratosphere, its main causes, present status and its impacts on the biosphere. He said that it is very important to maintain natural biogeochemical cycles which are badly impacted due to anthropological activities. Further, he advised the students to act as an ambassador for spreading the awareness of environmental measures in the society with the motif "my environment, my responsibility". Manoj Kumar spoken on topic of environment and sustainable development. He also talked about the significance of environment, natural resources and impact of environmental calamities on human beings, plants and animals and also raise awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the precious planet earth. Among the students participated in the oral presentation were Saleem, Javaid, and Reeta. Subsequently students and faculty have conducted plantation drive in the existing Campus and also watering of the plants. The event was concluded with the environmental pledge to the students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the Campus. The event was organized under coordinator-ship of Dr. Nisha Sharma as co-ordinator. Diksha, Ravi Kumar, Sandeep and Babloo Salaria were also present on the occasion.
