Roll-back Agnipath scheme, restore old practice of defense recruitments: Vilakshan
6/24/2022 10:28:20 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 24: Describing the "Agnipath scheme" as anti youth and whimsical, Vilakshan Singh JKNPP President flayed the BJP led govt for playing with the sentiments of the youth aspiring for a career in Armed forces. "The massive protests had broken out all across the country with unemployed youth taking the law and order in their hands. The heart wrenching incidents of clashes, riots, death and destruction in the past few days have only exposed the failure of the govt in handling the grave situation emanating from its anti youth policies", stated the NPP Chief while addressing a press conference in Jammu today.
Addressing the media, Vilakshan Singh said that the Union Govt's move for recruitment of contractual soldiers in the Indian defense system named as 'Agniveers" under the said scheme has only stirred the hornet's nest. He rued that it had caused commotion, unrest and ruckus not only in the armed forces but also among the young aspirants all over the country who were awaiting their written examinations for their regular selection in the defense services. He divulged that thousands of Agniveers will serve in the armed forces for four years on meager salary and after getting laid off from work they would be rendered jobless. "This would lead to militarization of the society which could pose a serious threat to the internal security. It is believed that the purpose of this step by the government is to reduce the burden of salary and pension of the Indian forces. Is it prudent to implement the austerity measures by cutting down the military size and salary structure of the defense personnel. Will it not affect the morale of the defense forces? Will it not lead to retrogression of armed forces and affect the quality of defense personnel? Will it not make the defense system vulnerable to enemy's misadventures?, Vilakshan asked a volley of questions.
Taking a pot shot at the BJP govt, Vilakshan said that the Saffron brigade had been experimenting with the country by bringing freakish laws and anti-people policies. "Previously, farmers were forced to languish on roads for more than a year amid introduction of controversial farm bills. This time, the govt had resorted to play with the fire by bringing an insane transformation in the recruitment process pertaining to the defense sector without any deliberations and pilot study. This would hurt the traditional values and the pristine glory of our armed forces. The National security of the country would be under threat", warned The NPP leader. Calling upon the govt to revoke the scheme in the interest of the youth and the Armed forces, he said the introduction of 'adhocism' disguised as Agnipath scheme into the Indian defense system would prove counter-productive and have serious fallout. "The country is already conflagrated with the politics of polarization. Soaring inflation, unemployment and corruption have led to public embitterment. Your dictatorial policies of suppression, persecution and silencing the dissenting voices have only aggravated the public outrage. Weakening the defense forces with insane decisions would make things from bad to worse, said the NPP President while seeking roll-back of the scheme", Vilakshan warned BJP.
