Say No To Single Use Plastic Awareness held at GGM Science College | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 3: NSS GGM Science College under the patronage of worthy Principal Dr. Ravender Tickoo and guidance of NSS PO Dr. Deepali Mahajan celebrating Azadi ka amrutmahotsav organized an awareness workshop Say No To Single Use Plastic. The International Plastic Bag Free Day is celebrated every year on 3rd July, with an aim to raise awareness about the issues of plastic pollution and its harmful impact on the natural environment. NSS volunteers made posters on Say No To Single Use Plastic. Plastic waste is dumped in landfills and proves harmful to the marine creatures if it gets washed into oceans. These are difficult and costly to recycle and take around 300 years to photodegrade. They break down into tiny toxic particles that contaminate the soil and waterways and enter the food chain when animals accidentally ingest them. They release chemicals like phthalates as they break down. The plastic typically used in bottles, bags and food containers contains chemical additives such as endocrine disruptors, which are associated with negative health effects including cancers, birth defects and immune system suppression in humans and wildlife. Paper Bag Day is all about choosing to be more sustainable and eco-friendly, as we grapple with the all-too-real crises like climate change and globalization. |
